RSTP

Market-ready Concept | Industrial Design | 2025

OVERVIEW

RSTP (Radiant Stove Teapot) is a retro-modern ceramic infrared heated teapot system that harmoniously merges nostalgic form with refined contemporary function. The radiant heat surface not only resembles the traditional method of heating water over wood-fired open flame, but also provides a more immersive experience via radiating heat around the stove. Drawing from the visual language of vintage radios and minimal industrial design, the product leverages intuitive control sliders for improved user feedback while eliminating superfluous interface elements.

The design prioritizes seamless integration across components, from the modular teapot trays—compatible with traditional steeped tea, boiled brewing and steam-based tea brewing—to the heat-resistant base, which conceals an innovative circular ventilation system for safe and efficient cooling. Material selections such as PPS ensure thermal stability and cost-effectiveness, with options to elevate to LCP for premium applications.

RSTP originated as a multi-component countertop system tailored to the evolving tea market, with a particular focus on a younger generation increasingly attuned to product aesthetics. Conceived as an investor-ready venture by a two-person team, the project was ultimately shelved in early 2025 due to unforeseen external conflicts. While it did not proceed to production, RSTP remains a compelling exploration of design innovation and market foresight.

Modern Interpretation on Traditional Tea Making

RSTP reexamines the cultural ritual of tea through the lens of contemporary design theory. By distilling traditional tea-making practices into a modular, technology-integrated system, the project explores how heritage can be translated into modern domestic contexts. It reflects on the evolving relationship between users and everyday objects—where form, function, and emotion intersect—proposing a new narrative for how tradition can be preserved not only by replication, but also through thoughtful reinvention.

FEATURES

Modular Tea Tray

Choose your style: steeped, boiled, or steam-brewed. Each tray clicks into place with a custom bent-metal handle, built for daily rhythm and ritual.

Angled Handle

Tilted for comfort and control. The directional silhouette subtly guides the hand and eye, elevating both form and function.

Refined Spout Geometry

Inspired by traditional teapot design, awide inlet and narrow outlet create a steady, powerful pour—smooth, accurate, and visually balanced.

Dual Element Stove

One element or two—controlled by a simple slider. Tailor the heat output to match kettle size or desired heating intensity.

Tactile Heating Mode Slider

One slider, five fixed modes. 500W, 1000W, 1500W for fast boils. 60W and 80Wfor keeping warm. Detents provide instant tactile feedback—no guessing, no fine-tuning needed.

One-Way Interaction

Unlike stepless dials that ask for exact input—pausing the user mid-action—our system offers a single, confident interaction. The design speaks first. You respond with intent. Fewer decisions, more intuitive, more consistent results.

Behavior-Informed Layout

Warming modes sit between high-heat levels for intuitive toggling. Tested and proven more natural for daily use. Color-coded numbers make navigation effortless.

Concealed Ventilation System

A hidden ring of vents beneath and around the base keeps the surface cool without compromising aesthetics. Clean lines, safer handling, no visual clutter.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Thermal Shock-Resistant Glass

Made of borosilicate glass. High transparency, low expansion. Withstands sudden changes up to ~150°C without a crack.

Bring Your Own Teapot

Use your own. Glass, ceramic, or cast iron—it’s compatible, stable, and safe.

Heat Safety Indicator

A soft LED glows when the surface is hot, and fades when safe. Built-in peace of mind.
