LOW POLY ASSET CREATION
2024 | OCAD | DIGF-2012_Low Poly Game Art_PJ1
Individual Project
A low poly asset project that allowed me to practice fundamental 3D asset modeling techniques in a stylized and efficient way, with careful lighting and composition. Scene inspired by the Eames House.
GRAPHIC DESIGN PROJECT
2022 | Personal | Business Card Design
Individual Project
My own business card project that was created for my 2024 OCAD graduation exhibition, where I aimed to take full control of the production process—from design to material and finish—so the result would reflect both my graphic design skills and my understanding of manufacturing constraints. I intentionally worked with these limitations to create a design that is not only visually distinct but also leaves a strong tactile impression, making the interaction with the card more memorable, all while staying within a tight budget and time
DATA VISUALIZATION
2023 | OCAD | VISM-3002_Data Vis & Visual Analytics_PJ1
Individual Project
A data visualization project that allowed me to creatively transform dense geospatial data into visually engaging narratives through 3D modeling and rendering. It helped me experiment with layout, color, and form to make complex urban information intuitive and accessible.
SPECULATIVE DESIGN & CONCEPT
2023 | OCAD | INDS_3012_Speculative Design_PJ1
Team Project: Yurun Ouyang, Yasemin Dirk, Zishan Liao
Dialog is a speculative design project that explores the future of mental health tracking through emerging voice analysis and AI technologies. Grounded in today’s growing anxiety epidemic and digital surveillance trends, it imagines a near-future product that reflects how society might respond to emotional well-being as both a personal and systemic concern. Speculative design helps build foresight and critical thinking by imagining future possibilities based on emerging trends.

CERAMIC EXPLORATION
2022 | OCAD | GDES-3034_Domestic Ceramics_PJ123
Individual Project
Explored ceramic techniques through both single- and multi-piece plaster molds to create varied forms and finishes. Also experimented with underglaze decoration such as sgraffito and wax resist, alongside a range of glazing methods to achieve distinctive surface qualities.
SERVICE BLUEPRINT PRACTICE
2022 | OCAD | INDS-3011_Service Design_PJ1
Team Project: Byron Wang, Xiyang Cen, Yurun Ouyang
The service blueprint outlines the end-to-end customer journey—from parking to checkout—while mapping interactions across user actions, staff roles, and backend operations. The line of interaction separates customer actions from front-stage staff interactions, while the line of visibility distinguishes what the customer sees from the behind-the-scenes processes. It highlights key touchpoints and helps identify areas with potential for improvement.
STRATEGIC FORESIGHT PRACTICE
2022 | OCAD | INDS-3003_Conceptual & Foresight Methods_PJ1
Individual Part in a Team Project: Felix Xu, Oscar Yu, Matthew Wan, Yurun Ouyang, Zishan Liao
Set of ecosystem maps analyzes Airbnb’s current dependencies and visualizes potential expansion points across hardware, functionality, data, and user experience. By identifying latent behaviour trends, new opportunity areas are found. The diagrams propose strategic innovation opportunities that could enhance service integration, interaction design, and product's future sustainability.
PLASTIC PROTOTYPING 02
2022 | OCAD | FABR-2004_Intro to Fabr_Plastic_PJ2
Individual Project
Explored a variety plastic prototyping methods, including 3D printing, vacuum forming, and two-part polyurethane resin casting. Experimented how different manufacturing methods influence form and surface quality. This process helped me better understand how to intentionally leverage fabrication constraints(3D printing layer lines) to achieve stylistic outcomes(contour lines) in both digital and physical prototyping.
PLASTIC PROTOTYPING 01
2022 | OCAD | FABR-2004_Intro to Fabr_Plastic_PJ1
Individual Project
Explored foundational prototyping skills using materials like foam, acrylic, and paint. The horse piece was hand-carved from foam and finished with paint, while the cube maze combined high-density foam with precision-cut acrylic layers and a metal ball to explore multi-material construction and kinetic interaction.
ROD + SHELF
2021 | OCAD | INDS 1008_Design in Context 2_PJ1
Individual Project
A quick design & rendering exercise exploring ways to unify drying and storing clothes through a more efficient hanging system. Inspired by traditional Chinese carrying poles, the concept aimed to reduce repetitive steps in the laundry process.
DIGITAL SPACE IDEATION PRACTICE
2021 | OCAD | INDS 1003_Body, Object & Digital Space_PJ3
Individual Project
Explored digital tools that support ideation in 3D space. Designing a multi-material wine glass package served as the guiding framework for experimentation and form development.
ERGO HANDLE / STIRRER
2021 | OCAD | INDS 1003_Body, Object & Digital Space_PJ2
Individual Project
An ergonomic, customizable cup handle with an integrated slot for a reusable stainless steel stirrer, designed to enhance hydration and reduce waste. It blends function, comfort, and sustainability, promoting mindful consumption and environmental care in daily routines.
PERISCOPE
2021 | OCAD | INDS 1003_Body, Object & Digital Space_PJ1
Individual Project
A flat-packed modular periscope toy designed to enhance children's spatial awareness, creativity, and understanding of physics through hands-on assembly and mirror-based exploration. Inspired by the open-ended nature of modular construction toys, the design encourages self-directed play, collaboration, and imaginative experimentation for children around six years old.
MATERIAL EXPLORATION: LOOFAH
2021 | OCAD | INDS-1007_Design in Context 1_PJ1
Individual Project
Explored possibilities of biodegradable egg packaging using dried loofah fibers and straws, designed to be modular, protective, and easy to carry. Inspired by traditional Japanese & East Asian egg holder made by wrapping straws. and the form of a bird’s nest.
