URBN
Product Concept Packaging Design | Sustainable Bathroom Tissue Packaging | 2023
OVERVIEW
This project was one of the assignment from the Packaging Design course at OCAD.
The project focuses on designing a new line of bathroom tissue products, called URBN, aimed at creating a strong bond between the product and its packaging. The design aims to provide a functional, minimalist, and sustainable packaging solution. The project introduces three SKUs—Original, Triple, and Artist—with unique graphics, colors, and designs that enhance the brand's identity. The packaging also reduces waste, integrates functionality, and offers an elegant and adaptable look. This design offers a cohesive and convenient user experience, positioning URBN as a modern urban product.

CATEGORY INSIGHT
In this project, our goal is to align the design more closely with our identity as industrial designers. We aim to create a strong bond between the product and its packaging, making the packaging an integral part of the overall product experience. Packaging should not simply serve as a means of transport and protection, but rather extend the product itself.
By incorporating design elements into the packaging, we create a seamless transition between the two, strengthening the connection and offering a cohesive brand experience. Our approach takes a holistic view of the daily use product category, integrating products and packaging to provide a cohesive and convenient user experience.

“Our company is created to lead the way in circular economy design, creating products that are built to last and can be reused, repurposed, and recycled for as long as possible. We're committed to minimizing our environmental impact and maximizing our positive social impact by designing with longevity in mind. Our goal is to make a positive impact on the world around us by embracing the circular economy and creating sustainable products.”
DIE-LINE
The packaging forms a rectangular paper stand with a cap that also serves as a protective base in humid environments. Access to the toilet paper is provided by peeling off a corner of the packaging. Each roll is set at 5, considering the target demographic and packaging durability.
URBN's overall packaging is further compressed and re-optimized to facilitate transportation, storage, loading, and other actions. The use of soft lines buffers the excessively sharp visual experience.
The package's theme color transitions gradually from light to dark, and the cap shows a top view of the toilet paper, conveying product information in a fully enclosed package.
